When you type “Tania Sarin” into your Instagram search bar, an incredibly dressed stylist, blogger, all-around professional appears on your screen. Her aesthetically crafted feed includes warm-toned interiors, bold blazers, and images of masks she designed. Her success and massive Instagram following is a testament to her hard work and distinguished style, which she describes as “edgy and androgynous, yet still chic.”
Tania Sarin Araradian’s roots in the fashion industry run deep— her grandfather was a costume designer and worked with the legendary Bob Mackie. She reflected upon her grandfather’s sewing machine and remembered seeing all these signed celebrity photos sparking her interest in a fashion career.
“I was looking at them and was so amazed by his work and all the people he worked with,” Araradian said.
After studying fashion marketing at Woodbury University, she followed in her grandfather’s footsteps by becoming a stylist and working with celebrities. Though she had achieved her childhood ambitions, she soon realized that being a celebrity stylist was not fulfilling. She decided to pivot, and began a blog. Fast forward a few years, she felt it was time to pivot again and focus her creative and professional energy on Instagram.
Now, Araradian has pivoted yet again as she creates new businesses and explores ways to use her platform to speak on issues she is passionate about.
“I’m not just a fashion girl and I don’t want to be known as just a fashion girl,” said Araradian while explaining her new business ventures.
Araradian quickly adapted to the new reality of the pandemic, when she suddenly lost partnerships during March 2020. She has collaborated with Styleguise, a female-founded company producing ethically made products made in Los Angeles, to create masks and accessories. Additionally, Araradian is a board member on the Armenia Support Fund and has created the first online marketplace for products made in Armenia, Shop Shouga.
“I always work to give voice to the Armenian community with any work that I do,” said Araradian. “Whether it is raising funds to support Armenians with Covid relief or to create business opportunities abroad.”
From educating her followers through instagram posts to sharing the Shop Shouga instagram in her bio, Araradian’s use of her platform is intentional.
“It’s so important for me to give a platform to other Armenians and to promote Armenian-made goods, to show the world the magic that comes from Armenia,” she expressed.
As Araradian continues to grow her business, she has realized that the power in her social media presence. Having long understood her influence as a tastemaker, she now reflects on her passion for being an advocate for the Armenian community.
“Fashion can often bridge the gap between art and activism — it can tell the stories that words sometimes can’t.”
Araradian’s work is a reflection of her style. She has expanded upon her years of experience in the fashion industry while creating new space for herself in this industry.
Speaking of the fashion industry, I couldn’t resist asking THE Tania Sarin for styling advice. After sending her a picture of these pastel yellow platform converse I had just bought for myself, she recommended I style the sneakers with high waisted trousers, a crop top or tank and a blazer. The final outfit is something I can not wait to flex on the internet.
Though we know Araradian is already the epitome of style, her new professional ventures are propelling her forward through her most recent pivot.
She is excited to continue her work with Styleguise, expanding from masks and accessories to create clothing with them as well. Through her new business ventures, Araradian continues to focus on raising money and creating business opportunity for Armenia.
“I realized this is what I love,” said Araradian.
So yes, Tania Sarin is a name synonymous with style, but don’t just call her a trendy tastemaker.
Call her an advocate, entrepreneur, board member, etc.
